Social media has become an important part of our daily lives and in all this frenzy that has latched onto the world, it’s getting harder and harder to find a line between privacy and public exposure.

1. Real friends vs. Facebook friends

The main thing we discover on a social media related site and especially on Facebook is how easily you can keep in touch with old and distanced friends. But despite the easy access and user friendly interface it provides, it’s also easy to forget when we post something that one of our teachers or relatives might come across.  Managing your privacy settings is important not only to avoid some talks with your parents and teachers, but also with your girlfriend.

Even though the love that you feel right now might seem real, give this a thought:  in a couple of years your wife might find your love posts to this other woman and she might not be very happy. Don’t fear social media, but remember that once something is online, it stays there.

2. The Big Brother feeling

Remember that girl you used to have a crush on, and how on some days you would flip through all her albums? There’s no need to feel bad about it: we all do it once in a while, it’s just our curiosity.

Keep in mind the fact that all those photos you took with your girlfriend and posted on Facebook will be there as long as your account is. Also the girl you are dating at 17 is probably not going to be the girl you end up marrying, even if right now she’s the love of your life and you want to share  everything that you do together with the whole world.

3. Your status

When you want to announce to the world what your relationship status is, make sure that your girlfriend is on the same page as you are. You wouldn’t want to be put in the situation of a Facebook breakup because they are the most annoying.
