The pros and cons of blind dating

There is always some friend who wants to hook you up with someone he thinks that might be perfect for you, but these dates might not end perfectly; nevertheless, they might also not be that bad. Here are some pros and cons to decide whether it is better to go on a blind date, or not.

Pro:

Due to the fact that your friends know you well enough, they know what you want, like and what you are looking for and that is why they might hook you up with someone that could be a good match. If not, your friend still isn’t likely to hook you up with someone terrible, fact which isn’t guaranteed when you ask someone you don’t know on a date.

Con:

Your friends might set you up with the girl whom they think you should date, and not a girl that you might actually want to date. For instance, if you have been dating for some time, and your friend might think it is time for you to start a serious relationship, he might set you up with a great girl who is looking for that but whom you might not be interested in.

Pro:

Due to the fact that this girl isn’t a part of your circle of friends, you won’t have to worry about the fact that the date might not go as planned.

Con:

There might be some tension between you and your friend if the date doesn’t go well. If you are a gentleman on the date, your friend’s negative reaction will have to do with expectations and besides, it is best to deal with some negative tension with a friend than if you go out with a girl from your social circle and the date goes wrong.

Pro:

If you go out on blind dates you have the opportunity to meet women who you wouldn’t normally meet. There have been studies which have shown that the significant people we meet are through our weak ties and not through our normal routines. To say it otherwise, you are most likely to meet business partners, mentors, girlfriends and wives through other people than through your day-to-day experiences.

Con:

Blind dates come with a lot of expectations. Most of those who hook you up won’t set you up with one of their friends, so it is not such a big problem, despite the fact that most blind dates are set with the idea that there will result a long-term connection.

Pro

If you are shy, blind dates are a good way to meet women. All you have to do is to tell your friends that you are looking for someone and they will do the rest.

Con:

If you are too shy, you might not handle the date, but it will also be a good way to develop confidence due to the fact that it is a safe environment. Sometimes a blind date might be exactly what you need to boost your confidence and find the type of relationship that you are looking for.
